Wild swimming
We are complete converts and love our cold water swimming year round, we love the sea – there is something about salt water on your skin – but the moor is wonderful in all weathers and offers the extra cold hit in winter far below the sea temperature.
Our favourite spots include Crazy Well Pool behind Burrator Resevoir – you can really swim here which we love – so does the dog – as opposed to just dip.
Cadover Bridge offers more dipping opportunities along the river but a really super circular walk down through the old mine works of Plym Valley, there is almost always a Willy’s icecream van in the carpark or if you fancy something a little warmer you could pop into the
Royal Oak Inn at Meavy on your way home.
Paddle Boarding and Kayaking
If you bring your own whilst it is tidal, you only need to drive 5mins to Lopwell Dam to pop them in – a stunning nature reserve on the upper stretches of the river Tavy or you could look at some of our favourite beaches.
Mount Batten water sports and activities centre offers 1:1 and 1:2 sessions and coaching.
