Explore the vast and rugged wilderness of Dartmoor’s granite outcrops and ancient forests, wild swim in secret pools, paddle board on calm estuaries, walk along miles of beaches breathing in the salty air or dip into our little black book of contacts for falconry flying, local tours both 4×4 and horseback or gin distilleries with sampling to tempt you.

With complementary passes for all our Shepherd Hut retreat guests, to the 800-year-old National Trust Buckland Abbey Gardens and 700-acre Estate and a mere mile to The Garden House considered a “Plants’ Man’s Paradise”, you need not get in the car at all.

From bracing swims in secret pools and rivers on the moor, our favourite beaches and meandering estuaries through nature reserves perfect for paddle boarding we are the perfect location for a retreat in Devon, immersed in nature, slowing down and connecting.
Awe inspiring walks
Britain’s most southerly National Park spanning much of Devon, a wilderness of granite outcrops, majestic Tors, pre-historic monuments, stone lines, circles and cairns; home to 3000 free roaming Dartmoor ponies. A walking, mountain biking, paragliding and kayaking haven. Our Shepherds Hut retreat guests are on the fringes of this spectacular National Park, enjoy immersive escapism in Nature.

Whether you are looking to jump in the car from your Shepherds Hut retreat and enjoy the sand between your toes, a bracing sea swim or a stunning cliff top walk, we have an abundance of “favourite” Devon and Cornwall beaches to share.
Something different
Some Shepherds Hut retreat guests will not venture far from their secluded cabin, enjoying the slower pace and immersive escapism gazing over the Devon landscape. Should you want to indulge your wilder sider from falconry, llama walking, gin tasting, hot air ballooning, tours of Dartmoor both 4×4 or on Horseback we have fabulous local contacts to share.
